Getting started

What is a Buying Club? A buying club is a group of people who pool their food orders for delivery to their neighborhood at a predetermined place and time. We need you to pool your orders to justify the time and expense of a delivery off the farm. By combining your food needs with other like-minded people, you can purchase farm-fresh, sustainably-grown foods without a trip to the farm.

Why do we offer this opportunity? Our preference is for you to visit the farm so that you and your family can experience first hand what is involved is this type of agriculture, but we realize this is not always possible. This is the next step in forming a solid relationship between the farmer and the consumer so we can work together to establish a healthy, sustainable food system.

How do I JOIN a buying club? Click here to view a current list of our buying clubs. If you find one that that is acceptably close to you, contact us and we will sign you on with that club. If there are no existing clubs close enough, you can start your own with a few friends, relatives, neighbors, or co-workers who would also like to purchase our foods.

How do I START a buying club? Setting up a buying club is simple. Find a few friends, family members, neighbors, or co-workers that are interested in purchasing local, healthy foods for their families. Decide among yourselves where a convenient location for delivery would be. It can be in your driveway, a public parking lot, or shopping mall. Give us the location and we will arrange the delivery time and date with you.

If you don’t know anyone who wants to combine grocery orders with you, try talking with some friends. We have found that once people realize it's possible to have these nutritious foods delivered to their area, they are grateful for the opportunity to join forces.

What if there are no clubs in our area? Call us and we may be able to link you to other folks in your area who, like you, have not been able to find others with whom to pool their orders.

Ordering

What foods are available to order? When you receive your order form you will find foods grown and produced by several local producers, not just Forks Farm. We take the same approach with our buying club as we do with our farmer's market, by providing us all with access to what we feel are the healthiest foods grown nearby. Forks Farm continues to specialize in growing and providing organically raised, 100% grass-fed beef and lamb, as well as pastured chicken, eggs, turkey, and pork. You can also purchase farmstead cheeses and dairy, organic breads, and baked goods, as well as natural soaps, all locally grown or produced. You can also order wild-caught Alaskan salmon through our buying club program. While this salmon comes from Alaska, it is personally caught and delivered by Bloomsburg's locally owned and operated WildforSalmon.

As with our farmers market we are committed to providing local, nutritious, sustainably raised foods. Our product list continues to grow as we partner with other local growers and producers. Click current buying club producers to learn about the other local growers whose healthy foods you can purchase.

NOTE: Some items are seasonal and only available during certain times of the year. Other items, such as our meats that store well when frozen, are available throughout the year.

How do I order? Once you are a buying club member, you will automatically receive via email our monthly Forks Farm buying club order form. You will receive this order form one week prior to each monthly delivery date. Fill in your contact information at the top of the form and the quantities of each item desired. You can view your approximate order total at the bottom of the form, then email the completed form back to us. You may save a copy of the form to your own files, as well as print a copy for your records.

Will I receive everything I order? Some items are seasonal and only available during certain times of the year. Other items, such as our meats that store well when frozen, are available throughout the year. Check our sample buying club order form to view this season's offerings. We maybe temporarily out of stock of certain cuts, but we will do our best to fill your order. We recommend sending in your order as soon as possible as we fill orders on a first come, first served basis.

What is the minimum amount I must order? In order to afford to send a delivery vehicle to you we need a minimum club order of $1000 per delivery. You generally need about 6 to 10 active participants to achieve this order amount. We will give your club one year to achieve this level. In other words, you can start with a smaller order and as you sample the products and tell your friends, the club’s purchasing power will grow to a point where the minimum order won’t be a factor.

Delivery

When and where will my delivery be? We will deliver once every four to six weeks to your particular buying club's delivery location, so plan ahead so that you have enough of our foods to last until the next delivery. Delivery locations are determined by each buying club.

How does delivery work? You should bring coolers or boxes to receive the foods which are frozen or chilled for the delivery. We make every effort to be punctual. You should too. We allow 30 minutes at each delivery. If you cannot be punctual, enlist a friend or neighbor to pick up your food and drop off your check. Payment can be made with cash or check and off you go with a cooler filled with a month's worth of delicious, healthy foods for you and your family! We charge a 25 cents/lb delivery fee to help cover some of the cost of fuel.

What if I'm late to the pick up? Call us ahead of time to make other arrangements.

What if there is a problem with my order? Notify your delivery person of any problems at the time of pick up or contact us. We want you to be fully satisfied with every item we deliver.

Payment

How do I know what to pay? When you complete your order an approximate total will be calculated at the bottom of the form. This approximate total is based on the quantity of each item you order, assuming an average weight for each item. When we pull your order together for delivery we weigh each item and recalculate your total based on actual weights and a 25 cents per lb delivery charge. This total is the actual amount you pay at delivery.

How and when do I pay? Payment is made at delivery as cash or check. Checks should be made payable to Forks Farm.

Are discounts, credits, or special offers available? For each first-time buyer you bring into your buying club we will credit you $10 off your next order! You offer your friends the opportunity to buy delicious, wholesome, chemical-free food direct from the farm and you make money doing it!  We get to link directly to customers that appreciate these types of foods and are loyal to their farmers. This is a win-win situation.

Quitting

How do I quit a buying club? You may quit at anytime. There is no penalty.

WildforSalmon

Wild For Salmon
Wild
forSalmon is a local business that makes fresh/frozen wild Alaskan sockeye salmon available to you at a common good price. Because we are the fishermen and we are local, we are able to provide you with the highest quality, flash/frozen, Alaskan sockeye available. WildforSalmon is owned and operated by Steve and Jenn Kurian of Bloomsburg, PA.

WildforSalmon began as only an adventurous trip to Alaska in 2002 to do some commercial salmon fishing with a friend. Following our first fishing excursion, we arrived home with two coolers of salmon for our friends and family. This is when we quickly realized the uniqueness of the product and the possibilities that lie ahead. We have grown to serve individuals, buying clubs, local farm markets, restaurants, and health food stores. Because WildforSalmon has increased its sales by an average of over 20% per year over the last 4 years, Steve and Jenn have recently purchased their own boat and commercial fishing permit for Bristol Bay, AK.

June and July are busy months on the boat. The fishing season lasts approximately 5-7 weeks. Steve is the skipper of our 32’ boat, while Jenn, the first mate, and two other local men are deckhands. While on the boat, we listen to the satellite radio to hear the official fishing periods. As we catch the salmon they are kept in refrigerated holds, making sure the quality is preserved. Every 10 hours we offload our fish onto a larger crab boat which takes the fish in for processing. It is quickly filleted, flash frozen, and vacuum sealed to capture the “direct from the boat” flavor. After fishing, the is salmon sent back to PA where we sell the salmon at local farm markets and other venues.

For more information about WildforSalmon, check out our website at wildforsalmon.com. You will find health benefits, salmon recipes, and pictures of Steve and Jenn fishing in Bristol Bay, AK. Thank you for supporting your local food network!
